Looney Tunes Collector's Choice: Volume 4 Rotate cover
The fourth volume and the final mainstream before evolving into Collector's Vault aims for clearing more of the acclaimed shorts that have been left out, alongside including some of the more commonly requested shorts that have been asked for since the series started.

This volume newly restores three cartoons instead of the usual two. The main two restored are "Holiday for Drumsticks" and "Peck Up Your Troubles". One more is another re-restoration, being "Muzzle Tough". The latter short was previously available on the first volume of the Japanese-only I Love Tweety series, which was a primitive restoration that had significant amounts of DVNR and was completed in SD format. The new print on this set restores the short without DVNR for the HD format.

Also included are two bonus shorts: "Lighter than Hare" and "Stork Naked". Both of these shorts were previously released on the Hare Extraordinaire and Frustrated Fowl Super Stars sets but infamously had them cropped due to misunderstanding of how the shorts were presented in theaters. The two shorts are added here in their original fullscreen format, along with a bit of cleanup that wasn't present in the original Super Stars or television airings.

This set releases the final "safe" Bugs short on disc media, being "Devil's Feud Cake" in yet another "last and least" addition. Speedy's only cartoon in the original Collector's Choice series has been added, being his first pairing with Sylvester in the DePatie-Freleng era. Another highlight is "Hyde and Go Tweet" finally getting a restored release after heavy demand from the start of the series.

Although the mainline Collector's Choice series ended here, this didn't mark the end of what the series aimed to be. There were high demands to ship even more shorts previously on DVD to Blu-ray, where the SD prints are increasingly beginning to be viewed as inferior as the rise for HD and even 4K came about. This leads into the Collector's Vault series, where the first disc of each volume for that series serves as a continuation of this series.

Collector's Recommendation Score

What's this? This is a rating of how recommended it is to obtain the set, rated from a scale of 0 to 10. This is automatically done and is calculated from three criteria by default: how many shorts are new to the format (20%), how many shorts is an upgrade from previous releases (30%), and how many shorts don't have an upgrade in future releases (50%). The higher the score, the more recommended the set is.

Each short in itself contributes an equal amount, and miscellaneous and post-Golden Age shorts are also included. Thus, even if all Golden Age shorts are upgraded in later sets, shorts in other categories may still prevent the set from scoring a 0.

For compilation sets, only the amount of shorts without a better version on later sets are scored for up to 10 points, as they tend to be repackages of previously released sets.

Any set that scores 0 on new-to-format or upgrade tests are deemed as double dip-only sets and instantly fails with a 0. Sets that also scores 0 on the "don't have an upgrade" test are also deemed as obsolete, usurped sets and instantly fails with a 0. As more sets get released, the score may be subject to change.

This is not an exhaustive rating on the set itself in terms of quality, but rather a marker on how worthwhile it is the obtain the set for a complete collection in the most cost-efficient way. Thus, sets with a higher score are a much better value for your cash than lower rated ones; sets rated with a 0 are generally a waste of cash.
This set has achieved a Collector's Recommendation Score of 9.704 out of 10, based on the sum of the score from the following categories:
  • New-to-format score (up to 2 points): 1.7
  • Upgrade score (up to 3 points): 3
  • Doesn't have an better version score (up to 5 points): 5

It is highly recommended to get this set for collection's sake, as it currently contains the best versions of the cartoons included on the set with minimal double dips. Most of the shorts featured on the set has yet to be upgraded to a better version or is in their best possible version if they're restored in HD.
