Looney Tunes Collector's Vault: Volume 1 Rotate cover
The first entity in the rebooted Collector's Vault series, the first disc is functionally similar to the previous four volumes in the Collector's Choice series name. Disc 1 by itself is internally named "Collector's Choice Volume 5."

To counter one of the common complaints that major characters were generally only left to weaker shorts, a second disc of shorts that hasn't been on Blu-ray in a mainline Looney Tunes home media disc was implemented. Commentaries are left out if they were originally included in previous releases, but this came at the reward of a higher video and audio bitrate. This allowed some 1998 dubbed versions and I Love Tweety prints to get new prints for the HD resolution, so they look entirely different than in previous incarnations. "Porky's Duck Hunt", previously an orphan short that was only available in the out of print Essential Daffy Duck DVD and on the divisive Porky 101 DVD set was finally found an official new home with various restored shorts, allowing collector's to take less of a risky jump just for one short. One of the main complaints of the Platinum Collection, being the excessive use of double dipping to upgrade shorts to HD, has been resolved with a much better split between the new to disc and the double dip upgrades.

Due to an error, one short was mistakenly double dipped from a previous Collector's Choice volume, being "Double or Mutton". Only by the time the set was finalized that this error was noticed; Warner Archive remedied this by providing 26 cartoons on disc 1 on the next volume.

"A Day at the Zoo", "Of Fox and Hounds", and "Each Dawn I Crow" are newly restored for this set. All Tweety shorts (except "Red Riding Hoodwinked") are upgrades from their previous I Love Tweety and Golden Collection incarnations, being entirely re-restored for the HD resolution with less DVNR. Any other shorts on disc 1 are from their 2020 restorations used for streaming and television, while the disc 2 shorts are previous shorts that were never made available on official HD home media with minor touchups.

Collector's Recommendation Score

What's this? This is a rating of how recommended it is to obtain the set, rated from a scale of 0 to 10. This is automatically done and is calculated from three criteria by default: how many shorts are new to the format (20%), how many shorts is an upgrade from previous releases (30%), and how many shorts don't have an upgrade in future releases (50%). The higher the score, the more recommended the set is.

Each short in itself contributes an equal amount, and miscellaneous and post-Golden Age shorts are also included. Thus, even if all Golden Age shorts are upgraded in later sets, shorts in other categories may still prevent the set from scoring a 0.

For compilation sets, only the amount of shorts without a better version on later sets are scored for up to 10 points, as they tend to be repackages of previously released sets.

Any set that scores 0 on new-to-format or upgrade tests are deemed as double dip-only sets and instantly fails with a 0. Sets that also scores 0 on the "don't have an upgrade" test are also deemed as obsolete, usurped sets and instantly fails with a 0. As more sets get released, the score may be subject to change.

This is not an exhaustive rating on the set itself in terms of quality, but rather a marker on how worthwhile it is the obtain the set for a complete collection in the most cost-efficient way. Thus, sets with a higher score are a much better value for your cash than lower rated ones; sets rated with a 0 are generally a waste of cash.
This set has achieved a Collector's Recommendation Score of 9.74 out of 10, based on the sum of the score from the following categories:
  • New-to-format score (up to 2 points): 1.8
  • Upgrade score (up to 3 points): 2.94
  • Doesn't have an better version score (up to 5 points): 5

It is highly recommended to get this set for collection's sake, as it currently contains the best versions of the cartoons included on the set with minimal double dips. Most of the shorts featured on the set has yet to be upgraded to a better version or is in their best possible version if they're restored in HD.
