Terminology Glossary
- AAP shorts: Also known as the pre-1948 package, refers to a package of 337 shorts that was sold to Associated Artists Productions in 1956. Consists of every Harman-Ising Merrie Melodies except for "Lady, Play Your Mandolin!" and every color cartoon from "Honeymoon Hotel" up to "Haredevil Hare".
- Censored Eleven: Refers to eleven shorts in the AAP package that was withheld from television distribution in 1968 from their current owner at the time, United Artists.
- Cheater short: Essentially what is considered as clip shows nowadays; shorts that largely recycle footage from previous cartoons as the framing device, often for budget reasons.
- Double dip: Releasing the same print of a previous transfer onto a different disc, resulting in basically getting a (usually unnecessary) copy of the short.
- DVNR: Digital voice noise reduction, a process that removes grain and dirt from film as it is transferred to digital media or tape. While it is effective on live-action segments, it often leads to a loss of details on animated releases due to being mistaken as grain or dirt. This process is rarely used in most recent releases, but were commonplace during early DVD and Blu-ray releases. Animation historian (and common commentator during the Golden Collection) Amid Amidi has an article describing more about DVNR.
