Bugs & Friends Rotate cover
A LaserDisc set that was released outside of North America; it marked the last set of LaserDisc releases overall and introduced visual improvements with the 1997 dubbed versions.

Intended as a successor to the LaserDisc series Stars of Space Jam, this set was primarily released to provide several shorts that have never saw a prior home media release but had completed getting a 1997 dubbed version. For unknown reasons, it was never released in America or Canada, presumably due to poor sales of previous releases. Only a Singaporean release was made entirely in English, while the Japanese release also had English as an alternate audio track.

The series seems to be a bit more intended for the collector despite it's family friendly marketing. A handful of shorts that were new to home media were released, but are generally seen as "last and least" additions since they represent some of the more weaker output of the cartoon studio. This can be largely seen with the large amount of 1959-64 season shorts, alongside the presence of post-1964 shorts from DePatie-Freleng Enterprises and Format Films. Nonetheless, the shorts themselves were starting to show signs of being restored: more vibrant colors, more clear cleanup of grain and dirt, and cleaner audio tracks.

Each side of the discs represent a specific character with Bugs, and contains 6 shorts each, featuring a selection of Bugs shorts and the shorts with the character described on the side:

  • Side 1 (Disc 1) was labeled Bugs & Tweety: Watch the Birdie and features a few shorts with Tweety, serving as a bit of a forerunner to what the I Love Tweety would provide a few years later. Only "The Jet Cage" has yet to be released restored on American disc media.
  • Side 2 (Disc 1) was labeled Bugs & Daffy: What's Up, Duck? and features a selection of shorts with Bugs and/or Daffy. While all have been released restored to DVD or Blu-ray, a few have yet to be released uncropped.
  • Side 3 (Disc 2) was labeled Bugs & Road Runner: Runaway Rabbit and marks the first time any of the Format Films Road Runner shorts were released. Only "Run, Run, Sweet Road Runner" has yet to be restored on digital home media.
  • Side 4 (Disc 2) was labeled Bugs & Speedy: Hare Today, Gone Tomorrow and compiles shorts with Speedy, with only "Assault and Peppered" having yet to be released restored on DVD or Blu-ray.
  • Side 5 (Disc 3) was labeled Bugs & Marvin: Martian Mayhem and contains a selection of shorts featuring Marvin and/or Bugs. All of the shorts on this side have been released restored on digital disc media.

Collector's Recommendation Score

What's this? This is a rating of how recommended it is to obtain the set, rated from a scale of 0 to 10. This is automatically done and is calculated from three criteria by default: how many shorts are new to the format (20%), how many shorts is an upgrade from previous releases (30%), and how many shorts don't have an upgrade in future releases (50%). The higher the score, the more recommended the set is.

Each short in itself contributes an equal amount, and miscellaneous and post-Golden Age shorts are also included. Thus, even if all Golden Age shorts are upgraded in later sets, shorts in other categories may still prevent the set from scoring a 0.

For compilation sets, only the amount of shorts without a better version on later sets are scored for up to 10 points, as they tend to be repackages of previously released sets.

Any set that scores 0 on new-to-format or upgrade tests are deemed as double dip-only sets and instantly fails with a 0. Sets that also scores 0 on the "don't have an upgrade" test are also deemed as obsolete, usurped sets and instantly fails with a 0. As more sets get released, the score may be subject to change.

This is not an exhaustive rating on the set itself in terms of quality, but rather a marker on how worthwhile it is the obtain the set for a complete collection in the most cost-efficient way. Thus, sets with a higher score are a much better value for your cash than lower rated ones; sets rated with a 0 are generally a waste of cash.
This set has achieved a Collector's Recommendation Score of 4.167 out of 10, based on the sum of the score from the following categories:
  • New-to-format score (up to 2 points): 1.53
  • Upgrade score (up to 3 points): 2.3
  • Doesn't have an better version score (up to 5 points): 0.33

It is not recommended to get this set for collection's sake. It contains significant amounts of double dips and/or inferior versions of the shorts. If this set is old, most of the shorts might have been updated to better versions. Majority of the shorts are available in a better quality in different sets or you will get a better value getting a higher rated set.
