Stars of Space Jam

Back to Home Media Releases

Originally released as a series of VHSes in November 1996 to promote the movie Space Jam, it would surprisingly see a reissue in 2018 on DVD, long before A New Legacy came out to theaters and around the time of the latter's announcement.

The series also had a Japanese LaserDisc release, which has the same contents as the VHSes did. The VHS series was discontinued in 1999 in light of the Looney Tunes Presents VHS series.

In 2018, the set was surprisingly released on DVD and, of course, was targeted to the family audience over the adult collector. As a result, there are some notable differences between the VHS and DVD versions, including upgrading all shorts that were restored previously up until the final set of restorations at the time from the Platinum Collection in 2014. Surprisingly, the Tweety set did not use any prints from the I Love Tweety series and instead used unrestored prints for shorts that were not on the Golden Collection. Most notably, though, a short from the Bugs and Daffy sets was each replaced due to featuring gunfire violence (despite being a staple in most shorts and even being in previous family-marketed sets).

While the sets enabled the first time some post-1948 shorts were released on home media during their initial run on VHS, their DVD counterpoints had rarely done justice in recent years, largely since all unrestored shorts present on the sets were later properly restored during the 2020 restoration project. As a result, it isn't recommended to obtain any of the sets for collector's purposes.
