Looney Tunes Super Stars Foghorn Leghorn & Friends: Barnyard Bigmouth Rotate cover
Now having to face the backlash from fans for cropping post-shutdown shorts, this set makes an attempt to remedy all of that. This time around, the shorts are given an option to be presented in their widescreen format or their fullscreen format; the earlier option is obviously cropped, but the latter is the original presentation as produced and aired on television. The widescreen cropped format is still the default option, though, so chances are that if you're playing this or any future Super Stars set on a DVD player, you'll have to go to the options on the DVD menu to point to the fullscreen shorts. All shorts are presented in this way, and most are new to disc, with one, "A Broken Leghorn" being a re-restoration to be able to work with the widescreen cropped format and for contemporary HD presentation over its original 1998 dubbed version in the Golden Collection.

This time around, instead of just focusing on the title character, a few miscellany are included, but the theme is mostly simple - it consists of several Foghorn shorts that were released after the studio's shutdown in 1953, both of the two shorts featuring the Jose and Manuel crows (the only cartoons on this set directed by Freleng), and several miscellaneous shorts directed by McKimson that are primarily from the 1958-59 season. Unsurprisingly, due to the shorter length of the later shorts, this release can be finished rather quickly, taking only about an hour and a half to watch from start to end.

Collector's Recommendation Score

What's this? This is a rating of how recommended it is to obtain the set, rated from a scale of 0 to 10. This is automatically done and is calculated from three criteria by default: how many shorts are new to the format (20%), how many shorts is an upgrade from previous releases (30%), and how many shorts don't have an upgrade in future releases (50%). The higher the score, the more recommended the set is.

Each short in itself contributes an equal amount, and miscellaneous and post-Golden Age shorts are also included. Thus, even if all Golden Age shorts are upgraded in later sets, shorts in other categories may still prevent the set from scoring a 0.

For compilation sets, only the amount of shorts without a better version on later sets are scored for up to 10 points, as they tend to be repackages of previously released sets.

Any set that scores 0 on new-to-format or upgrade tests are deemed as double dip-only sets and instantly fails with a 0. Sets that also scores 0 on the "don't have an upgrade" test are also deemed as obsolete, usurped sets and instantly fails with a 0. As more sets get released, the score may be subject to change.

This is not an exhaustive rating on the set itself in terms of quality, but rather a marker on how worthwhile it is the obtain the set for a complete collection in the most cost-efficient way. Thus, sets with a higher score are a much better value for your cash than lower rated ones; sets rated with a 0 are generally a waste of cash.
This set has achieved a Collector's Recommendation Score of 8.667 out of 10, based on the sum of the score from the following categories:
  • New-to-format score (up to 2 points): 1.87
  • Upgrade score (up to 3 points): 2.8
  • Doesn't have an better version score (up to 5 points): 4

It is recommended to get this set for collection's sake, as it currently contains a significant portion of the best versions of the cartoons available. The set may contain a small amount of double dips or shorts that have been upgraded that dips the rating down, but not enough to deter collecting.
