Looney Tunes Mouse Chronicles: The Chuck Jones Collection Rotate cover
Released in 2012, this rather bizarre set was released on Blu-ray and DVD to celebrate Chuck Jones' 100th birthday. Featuring the complete filmographies of Jones' mouse creations, Sniffles and the duo Hubie and Bertie, it marked one of the earliest releases on Blu-ray. It was also given a DVD release around the same time, although that version is long out of print (and for the better).

Disc 1 contains all of Sniffles' twelve cartoons, from his Disney-esque mannerisms on his debut to his blabbermouth hilarity at the end. All of the shorts are newly restored to home media for this set, with two of the shorts even getting their original titles restored for the first time here.

Disc 2 contains all seven of the Hubie and Bertie cartoons, alongside a handful of bonus mouse-related shorts. Unlike Sniffles, only four of their shorts were newly restored here; the other three are the same prints from previous collections (Golden Collection and Academy Awards Animation Collection, particularly). One short did get an upgrade from its 1998 dubbed version print from the Golden Collection; that being "The Hypo-Chondri-Cat" in order to not only make it presentable in HD (as 1998 dubbed prints were restored only for SD television), but also to restore its original titles.

None of the bonus features are restored, unfortunately. The closest one to such is the "Mouse Mazurka" short, which is presented as its 1998 dubbed version on Region 1 releases. The bonus shorts in the AAP package are presented as their 1995 dubbed version.

Collector's Recommendation Score

What's this? This is a rating of how recommended it is to obtain the set, rated from a scale of 0 to 10. This is automatically done and is calculated from three criteria by default: how many shorts are new to the format (20%), how many shorts is an upgrade from previous releases (30%), and how many shorts don't have an upgrade in future releases (50%). The higher the score, the more recommended the set is.

Each short in itself contributes an equal amount, and miscellaneous and post-Golden Age shorts are also included. Thus, even if all Golden Age shorts are upgraded in later sets, shorts in other categories may still prevent the set from scoring a 0.

For compilation sets, only the amount of shorts without a better version on later sets are scored for up to 10 points, as they tend to be repackages of previously released sets.

Any set that scores 0 on new-to-format or upgrade tests are deemed as double dip-only sets and instantly fails with a 0. Sets that also scores 0 on the "don't have an upgrade" test are also deemed as obsolete, usurped sets and instantly fails with a 0. As more sets get released, the score may be subject to change.

This is not an exhaustive rating on the set itself in terms of quality, but rather a marker on how worthwhile it is the obtain the set for a complete collection in the most cost-efficient way. Thus, sets with a higher score are a much better value for your cash than lower rated ones; sets rated with a 0 are generally a waste of cash.
This rating is based on the Blu-ray version.

This set has achieved a Collector's Recommendation Score of 9.5 out of 10, based on the sum of the score from the following categories:
  • New-to-format score (up to 2 points): 2
  • Upgrade score (up to 3 points): 3
  • Doesn't have an better version score (up to 5 points): 4.5

It is highly recommended to get this set for collection's sake, as it currently contains the best versions of the cartoons included on the set with minimal double dips. Most of the shorts featured on the set has yet to be upgraded to a better version or is in their best possible version if they're restored in HD.

Included Shorts

Note: This table accounts for the Blu-ray version; any of the shorts specified as HD are downscaled to SD in the DVD version.
