Warner Bros. Cartoon Cavalcade

Back to Home Media Releases

Released in 1988 as a small series, it included the first set of audiovisual updates towards previous prints of the post-1948 shorts featured on VHS.

It was released in two waves: the first one with classic cartoons in November 1988, and another one consisting of two TV specials that clip down several Golden Age shorts. Compared to the previous Video Show and Golden Jubilee series, entirely new prints of the shorts were utilized, sourced from 35mm masters that often had a cleaner and sharper picture quality than before. This was partly included as a project for television networks that had been airing the shorts at the time under The Bugs Bunny Show to have better transfers to be used for their package, which largely suffered from age and overusage, thus appearing more faded and worn over time. Still, there are ways to go before reaching the current state of digital restoration, but it ended up paving the path pushing towards getting the best possible picture (and audio) possible for viewers. It was ultimately succeeded by the Authentic and Original Looney Tunes Cartoons series, which shares the same intro as this series.

All shorts released in this series have since been released restored on DVD and/or Blu-ray.
