Authentic and Original Looney Tunes Cartoons

Back to Home Media Releases

One of the largest home media series for Looney Tunes, it marks one of the most definite and well-known releases of the series during the VHS/LaserDisc days.

The namesake of this series is primarily made to fight against the low-quality but growing public domain VHS market that was going around concurrently. They featured a golden Warner Bros. seal on the front for early volumes and the home media series' branding on later releases.

They primarily contained a selection of post-1948 shorts that Warner Home Video had access to, and they shared the same intro from its predecessor, Cartoon Cavalcade. It marked the first time the post-1948 shorts were ever released on the LaserDisc format and also marked the first releases of the recently completed computer colorized versions of black-and-white shorts, aimed to make them more appealing to children and television viewers, which aired on Nickelodeon during the time this set was released.

It ended up being a modest success, though not to the same degree as the Golden Jubilee collection. Part of this might be due to the rampant double dipping for different media formats, which were still unrestored either way, and in one case, a full-on double dip on the same VHS format. A total of 190 shorts were released from this series overall, with 11 of them still awaiting a proper restoration on DVD or Blu-ray.
